The Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony is one of the largest underground fortification systems in the world. The underground section of the central part of MRU is currently a bat reserve, where over 30,000 individuals belonging to 12 species of bats hibernate. The total length of the underground corridors is estimated to be around 32–35 km.

Located in the Lubusz Voivodeship, near Międzyrzecz. MRU consists of three sections differing in terms of the geographic characteristics of the surroundings and the density of fortification objects. It is one of the largest underground fortification systems in the world. The underground section of the central part of MRU is currently a bat reserve, where over 30,000 individuals belonging to 12 species of bats hibernate. The total length of the underground corridors is estimated to be around 32–35 km.
Some of the facilities are open to visitors. The main attraction is the underground complex. One of the underground tourist routes is located in Pniewo in the Międzyrzecz municipality (former PGR Kaława). Two routes have been prepared there: a long one (3 km in length) and a short one (1.5 km). Variants upon request and numerous surface routes are also possible. There is also a military equipment open-air museum in Pniewo, an exhibition hall where numerous exhibits related to the history and nature of MRU are gathered, and since July 2005, an underground draisine operates.
Another underground route begins at the so-called Boryszyńska Loop near Boryszyn and also has several variants, depending on visitors' possibilities, even up to 5 km. Variants of up to several dozen kilometers, marked outside the standard route, are also available.
For ease of movement through the underground and unlit corridors, it is good to have a good flashlight with you. The underground maintains a constant year-round temperature of +10 to +12 °C. Visits to the underground take place with a guide.
